Business Challenge
Vicky’s key challenge was creating a suitable workspace as she transitioned from a part‑time to a full‑time professional artist. Working from her kitchen table at home had been manageable for two days a week but became impossible as she increased her working hours. She needed a dedicated studio to protect materials, improve organisation, and support her creativity, productivity and family wellbeing
Results of the support:
With the support and guidance of her Business North Yorkshire Advisor, Claire, Vicky applied to the UK SPF Small Business Grant Scheme, and secured funding to help create a professional, purpose‑built studio tailored to her needs which allowed her to “go to work,” store her equipment properly, and avoid duplicated stock purchases. This new, dedicated workspace has enabled Vicky to significantly increase both productivity and creativity.
Claire’s ongoing support and encouragement has also boosted Vicky’s confidence as a small business owner, helping her expand her conservation themed work and strengthen community links. Through Claire’s connections, Vicky has accessed further funded training with the York and North Yorkshire Growth Hub, Strive, and Enterprise Made Simple (EMS). These programmes have enhanced her business and marketing skills, strategic planning, and links with other creative professionals - supporting her to build a stronger, more visible and resilient creative business.
Vicky appreciates the continued support she receives from Claire, saying: “The support I have had and continue to receive is amazing and I couldn’t have got to where I am without it to be honest … I am really looking forward to what 2026 has in store!” Vicky Tucker, Feb 2026
