The aim is to increase income and gain some stability.

A new North Yorkshire Maritime & Renewables Cluster (NYM&R) is launching this September to bring together businesses, education providers and investors from across North Yorkshire's maritime and renewable energy supply chain. Supported through funding from North Yorkshire Council, the initiative will help connect organisations, attract investment and strengthen opportunities within the growing clean energy economy.
Designed to encourage collaboration, attract investment and strengthen the industry's voice, the cluster is open to businesses from across North Yorkshire, not just those based on the coast. Manufacturers, engineers, logistics firms, technology companies, professional services and training providers are all encouraged to explore opportunities within the growing clean energy economy.
Richard Askam, Project Lead for NYM&R, said:
"North Yorkshire has extraordinary assets — world-class offshore wind resource on its doorstep, a rich maritime heritage, thriving port communities, exceptional education institutions and a broad base of businesses across the county that are ready to participate in the clean energy economy. What has been missing is a coordinated mechanism to bring all of that together. NYM&R will change that. This is not just a cluster for the coast — it is a cluster for the whole county. Every business in North Yorkshire with something to contribute to the maritime and renewables supply chain has a place in this conversation, and we want to hear from all of them.”
Tony Watson, Head of Economy and Tourism at North Yorkshire Council, added:
“North Yorkshire Council welcomes the development of the North Yorkshire Maritime and Renewables Cluster as a positive step in strengthening collaboration across this important sector. The Council has supported the establishment of the cluster through funding, recognising the significant opportunities it offers for economic growth, skills development and innovation. The opportunity extends well beyond the coast, with businesses and education providers across the county able to contribute to, and benefit from, the growth of the clean energy economy. By bringing together industry, skills and investment, the cluster has the potential to support economic growth, create new opportunities for local businesses and help ensure North Yorkshire is well positioned within the wider maritime and renewables sector.”
A programme of launch events will take place giving businesses the opportunity to learn more, make connections and help shape the future of the sector.

This Is The North Convention 2026

Organised by People's Powerhouse, the event is built around the theme “Do With” – encouraging collaboration between communities, businesses and decision-makers to create solutions that work for everyone. Delegates will hear from community voices, regional leaders and innovators while taking part in discussions focused on opportunity, wellbeing, culture and inclusive growth.
For businesses, the convention offers a valuable opportunity to connect with partners from across the North, contribute to conversations shaping regional priorities, and demonstrate how business can play a positive role in creating thriving communities.
